About Us

The best way to learn music at any age is to play.

Whether it be in lessons, recording, gigging or playing together with others, we can help you achieve your goals and build confidence too!

The Rhythm Box opened in 2011 to meet the need for a different kind of tuition. Our ethos is to focus on shaping lessons to each individual rather than following a strict graded syllabus. We started by offering lessons in guitar and drums, teaching mainly rock music. Since then we’ve grown to 10 staff and we now cater for a wide variety of instruments, including saxophone, clarinet, ukulele, piano, accordion, chanter, vocals and clàrsach.

We offer lessons for all ages and abilities, from hobbyists to aspiring music professionals. As well as individual lessons, we also provide a selection of group classes, including our Junior and Senior Rock Clubs, Samba Drumming Group and Under 5s class, and we even offer guitar repairs and annual servicing to keep your treasured instruments in great condition!

Our tutors have a wealth of experience and come from different backgrounds meaning that as a team we are in a great position to provide a rounded education. When appropriate to your progression in your chosen instrument you will have input from other members of staff as well as your own teacher to give you the chance to gain the broadest range of skill that you can.

Most music is inspiring to me and with harp, piano and vocals to play with I have plenty strings to my bow so to speak. To supplement exam work I love arranging and composing tunes and songs from traditional to contemporary and much in between making lessons varied and fun. Playing together is the best confidence builder and I’m very proud of our growing harp group so thumbs up!

Yva, a childhood friend of Keith B’s, works with us two days a week. She splits her time between working with us and running her own business ‘Boost Business Support’. She has been with us right from the beginning and has proved to be invaluable in enthusing students about their musical learning.

The children are always very excited to see Keith and love the time that he is on the class.
